IN his continuing search for the more weird, whacky and wondrous in the world of travel, David Ellis says authorities in a village in Bali are considering putting up "No Sex" signs after a tourist couple was fined for having sex in their temple.

Youth leaders arriving at the Hindu temple in the village of Saraseda detained and turned the Estonian couple over to police after discovering them in the act. Police however said they knew of no law forbidding sex in temples, and suggested authorities and the couple negotiate a suitable "fine."

The couple, aged 43 and 32, agreed to pay 20-million rupiah (AU$2000) for a "cleansing ritual" of the temple, and the officials say they are now thinking about displaying "No Sex" warnings  alongside the already existing "No Smoking" and "No Eating" signs in their temple.
