Scoot into Vienna: Low Cost Travel into Austria's Flamboyant Capital

Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines (SIA), recently began direct flights between Singapore and the Austrian capital, Vienna. David Bowden investigates.

Scoot is the only airline offering direct flights between these two key destinations, with three weekly services operated by Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners between Vienna International Airport and Changi International Airport. This aircraft has a capacity for 329 passengers in two cabin classes.

Travellers from Australia can now connect to Vienna seamlessly via Singapore, making Europe even more accessible to Australian holidaymakers seeking more affordable travel options beyond traditional gateways. Scoot’s route to Vienna seamlessly connects customers from various destinations in the Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group network to the charming Austrian capital via Singapore.

The Austrian capital is an exciting gateway for travellers to explore Europe’s rich history and heritage. For European residents, this new route also provides more options for customers to experience the vibrant sights of Singapore and other cities in Southeast Asia.

Vienna, which is known as the City of Music, is famous for being the birthplace of classical music composers like Mozart and Strauss, making it a desirable destination for cultural enthusiasts. The city enchants travellers with its majestic architectural landmarks, rich heritage, and timeless artistic appeal. With the atmospheric Advent or Christmas markets on the horizon, there is no better time to start planning a holiday in Austria.

Vienna’s central location makes it a strategic gateway to Central Europe and an ideal starting point for exploring multi-city European destinations. For example, Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, is just 50 km from Vienna, while Budapest, Hungary, and major cities in Czechia, Croatia, and Slovenia are all within a three-hour drive.

For long-haul flights such as Vienna, passengers in ScootPlus enjoy two complimentary meals (one hot and one light meal) with non-alcoholic beverages. Another benefit is that passengers seated in ScootPlus enjoy 30 kg of checked and 15 kg of carry-on luggage. From November, passengers at the front of the plane will also be able to enjoy complimentary 200 MB of wi-fi and a blanket for a more enjoyable flight. Scoot-in-Silence is a compact, dedicated section between ScootPlus and the main economy section and is available for passengers seeking a little more privacy and a quieter journey.

Scoot first painted the skies yellow in June 2012 and merged with Tigerair Singapore in July 2017, retaining the Scoot brand for a new chapter of growth. Scoot currently operates a modern and efficient fleet of over 50 aircraft, comprising widebody Boeing 787 Dreamliners, single-aisle Airbus A320 family aircraft, and the Embraer E190-E2 aircraft. The airline flies to over 70 destinations across 18 countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Europe.

Scoot is more than a typical low-cost carrier (LCC) and remains enthusiastic about travel, connecting people and cultures, and pushing boundaries. It does so by continually innovating and seeking new growth opportunities. As a leading low-cost carrier, Scoot strives to provide its customers with dependable and quality services, and differentiated product offerings, as well as comfortable and seamless travel experiences.

For the fifth consecutive year, Scoot was named Best Long-Haul Low-Cost Airline at the Skytrax World Airline Awards as well as Best Low-Cost Carrier at the TTG Travel Awards in 2025. Additionally, Scoot was crowned the ‘Value Airline of the Year’ by Air Transport World (ATW) for the second consecutive year in 2025.
